Workshops
Breaking Down Boundaries 2009 will include two interactive workshops that will ask attendees to consider social justice in unfamiliar terrain. The first considers the public interest value in ethical lawyering, while the second highlights the importance and usefulness of creativity and expressiveness in approaching socio-legal problems, especially in the context of Indigenous Australian culture.
Practical Ethics Workshop
In this contemporary, morally ambiguous world, legal ethics are vital to the next generation of leading progressive lawyers who wish to implement the law as a tool of social justice. Unfortunately, however, such a concept is often considered oxymoronic and contradictory. This engaging and interactive workshop will utilise thought provoking case studies of stirring ethical scandals and dilemmas to compel students to reflect, consider and prioritise their own ethical convictions.
Indigenous Theatre Experience
Dance, song, and storytelling have always been intrinsic components of Indigenous culture. During this workshop these elements will fuse into a unique and bewitching theatrical experience, which explores the complexity of contemporary Indigenous identities. An inter-subjective space will emerge and participants will witness first hand the power of Contemporary Aboriginal theatre as a catalyst for cultural, political and social change in Australia as their own existing assumptions are challenged.
