Careers Events
With many law graduates choosing not to practice law, the demand for alternative career pathways is growing. For those who do intend to practice, the challenge is finding career paths that engage with social justice and public interest elements in the law. The Careers events running during this year’s Breaking Down Boundaries conference address these issues and aims to provide attendees with unique insight into careers both inside and outside the legal profession.
The Careers events will run in conjunction with the various other activities organised for the weekend and will take the form of morning and afternoon teas. Students are invited to attend three separate careers sessions, with three separate themes organised for each session: corporate careers, non-corporate careers and volunteer opportunities.
In line with this year’s theme of “New Frontiers”, students will have the unique opportunity to hear from industry leaders from various top tier legal firms, government and volunteer organisations, as well as academics, media and publishing representatives. The sessions will involve an opening address from a notable keynote speaker and will be followed by a morning or afternoon tea, where students and representatives will have the chance to mingle and network.
The Careers component of Breaking Down Boundaries is an important part of the conference, providing students with practical insight into where a law degree can take them, and what employers and organisations are looking for in their graduates.
